Baby Dolls

Baby dolls have been found in our history since prehistoric time. Beginning dolls were created from the raw materials found in the environment such as wood, straw, stone, and clay. Over time the materials have evolved from wood to bisque and now vinyl dolls are the most common.

Baby dolls are often given to little girls. This is part of the gender typing of toys. When a little boy receives a doll it’s usually called an action figure. Dolls given to girls allow them to explore the future role of motherhood.

Adults can collect baby dolls for display. These collector dolls are usually less durable than the dolls meant for play. They can be antique dolls made from bisque or composition materials. Some collectors dolls are made from high quality vinyl; usually all collectors dolls have elaborate dresses and hairstyles.
